Finishes & Metal Types

Why are steel windows considered a luxury product?

Steel windows and doors are regarded as luxury architectural elements because of their craftsmanship, customization, durability, and design sophistication. Each system is typically fabricated to order, engineered for exact openings, and finished with premium finishes and hardware. Their narrow sightlines and elegant proportions create a level of refinement that is difficult to achieve with vinyl or standard aluminum systems.

Can I get a specialty finish?

Yes, we offer many finish options on all orders.

Can I get special colors?

Yes, we offer color options on all custom orders.  We offer matte black and white on many stock units.

Do you offer stainless units?

Yes, we make stainless steel units as well. They can be finished the same as standard steel units

Glass

What is Low-E 3?

Low-e is a coating that reflects up to 90% of the UV rays.  This benefits energy efficiency and helps preserve pressure interior finishes, furniture, and rugs from fading, etc.

Do you use Low-E 3?

Yes, on all exterior units, we use Low-E 3.  Low-E 3 is required by code in most municipalities.

How thick is your glass, is it double pane, and is it tempered?

All of our exterior units feature double-pane glass, with spacing that varies depending on the size and thickness of the pane. While building codes dictate tempered glass in certain applications, we exceed those standards by using tempered glass across all of our products. This ensures enhanced safety, exceptional strength, and lasting performance.

What about the glass on interior units?

Usually interior units are single pane, tempered glass, but of course, we can do whatever you require.

Measure & Install

Do you do the installation?

We install locally in the Atlanta area. We have a team of expert installers who will provide an exceptional installation process for your project. If your project is outside the Atlanta area, we can provide an installation guide for your carpenter or handyman.

How are your doors measured?

We provide shop drawings so you know exactly what the measurements are. Our stock units are measured from outside of the jamb to outside, and from the bottom of the threshold piece to the top of the header. Ask us more about this; we can walk you through how it’s done.

Do you have an installation guide you can provide?

Yes, we provide directions on how to install, and we are available anytime to help by phone, email or text.

How many people do you typically need to install the iron doors?

Depending on the size of the unit, normally two or three people can install them and it does not take long.

How are the units fastened?

Our doors and windows have predrilled holes for fastening to the structure.  You just screw or bolt them in, and when finished, caulk the hole and install the included plastic caps.

What is the difference between steel and aluminum windows?

Steel windows offer significantly greater structural strength than aluminum, allowing for thinner frames and larger expanses of glass. This creates the refined, minimal sightlines often associated with luxury architecture. While aluminum windows are generally more economical, steel provides a distinctive aesthetic, exceptional longevity, and a level of craftsmanship favored by architects and luxury homebuilders.

How much do custom steel windows and doors cost?

The cost of custom steel windows and doors varies depending on size, configuration, glazing specifications, hardware selections, finishes, and installation complexity. Because steel systems are high-end architectural products, pricing is typically higher than conventional window materials. However, many homeowners and architects view steel as a long-term investment due to its durability, timeless design, and impact on overall property value.

Why do architects prefer steel windows and doors?

Architects often specify steel windows and doors for their clean lines, narrow profiles, structural performance, and timeless versatility. Steel and glass complement a wide range of architectural styles, from contemporary homes to historic renovations, while enabling larger glass openings and precise detailing. Its strength allows architects greater design freedom without compromising elegance or durability.

How long do steel windows and doors last?

Properly fabricated and maintained steel windows and doors can last for generations. Steel is one of the most durable architectural materials available, offering exceptional resistance to warping, cracking, and structural fatigue. Many historic steel windows installed decades ago remain operational today, demonstrating the material’s remarkable longevity.
